Comparativos e superlativos

Comparativos:
Em inglês, quase sempre há duas formas para tudo. Assim, o sistema de comparativos e superlativos apresenta duas influências fortes que acabam criando duas soluções diferentes.
Palavras curtas, na pronúncia, favorecem o sistema de um sufixo. Os adjetivos nesse grupo recebem a terminação -er e se completam com o uso do comparativo than.
Exemplos:
*This house is bigger than the other one.
  Esta casa é maior do que a outra.

*Today is colder than yesterday.
  Hoje faz mais frio do que ontem.

*She's brighter than her brother.
  Ela é mais esperta do que seu irmão.

O segundo grupo são palavras mais compridas, em geral, de raiz latina. Elas usam o sistema das lín-guas de raiz latina "mais que" - more than.
Exemplos:
*This test is more difficult than the last.
  Esta prova está mais difícil do que a última.

*He is more arrogant than his father.
  Ele é mais arrogante do que o pai dele.

*This program is more interesting than last week's.
  Este programa é menos interessante do que o da semana passada.

Superlativos:
As adjetivos neste grupo recebem a terminação -est. Normalmente utilizamos o artigo definido, já que
são identificados e únicos.
Exemplos:
*This is the biggest house here.
Esta casa é a maior daqui.

*Today is the coldest day of the year.
  Hoje é o dia mais frio do ano.

*She's the brightest girl in the class.
  Ela é a menina mais esperta da turma.

O segundo grupo são palavras mais compridas, em geral, de raiz latina. Usam o sistema das línguas de
raiz latina "o mais" - the most.
Exemplos:
*This is the most difficult test.
  Esta prova é a mais difícil.

*He is the most arrogant person I know.
  Ele é a pessoa mais arrogante que eu conheço.

*This is the most interesting program on TV tonight.
  Este é o programa mais interessante na TV hoje à noite.

Podemos também utilizar the least para investigar outro grau comparativo.
Exemplos:
*This is the least difficult test.
  Esta prova é menos difícil(mais fácil).

*He is the least arrogant person I know.
  Ele é a pessoa menos arrogante que eu conheço.

*This is the least interesting propgram on TV tonight.
  Este é o programa menos interessante na TV hoje à noite.
